My goodness how times flies! (Especially when you are busy!)

We are officially past the halfway mark of 2019! I have been focusing much on my branding business Kindawonderful and have met so many wonderful entrepreneurs and small business owners. There are some seriously amazing people in this world of ours and it is a privilege to help them share their passion through branding and photography.

I sometimes get behind on updating websites but I did jump in and post some new images in my Instagram-inspired gallery. In case you missed them here they are:

Riley – 2018 Modeling Portfolio Session

I have been working with Riley for years! As you peruse my portfolio you will see many striking images of this lovely young lady. She has aspirations of going into modeling and I don’t see any reason why she should not. This girl is going places!

Mobile Rig 3.1

Well here it is!

A new take on my previous golf caddy rig. I absolutely love bungie cords and this thing is held together with them. I added a milk crate and a small accessory bag by the handle (that was Velcro and zipties) I’m still not happy with how much the light stand wobbles but again, a little bungie reinforcement and we’re good to go. Version 3.2 may have a more ridgid stand.

The rig also includes a second separate light stand, Speedlight, softbox and sandbag. Perfect for larger groups.

This setup is great for outdoor sessions with modified light but I think I prefer actual strobes and such for indoor location sessions.

You may ask, “Why build something like this?” I’m a one woman show. Someday I might have an assistant but on-call part-time help is difficult to come by.

Yes, that’s my dog Ripley being part of the test crew. The house is a mess, cat toys and all LOL (I’m human)

Taking this thing out today. I might not need it but I’ll have it just in case.

Chasing a toddler is dirty work

I like to say I’m not a pageant photographer but I do take competition shots LOL!

I am more of a natural photographer because, indeed, it is what I do best. Luckily headshots, modeling and portfolio photography can all be done with a natural touch. In the pageant circuit, my style is well suited for Sunburst.

Today I got a bit muddy with this little cutie patootie. We lucked out and the rain held off as we bounced between shoot locations.

I cannot wait to get these in Lightroom, I think there are some winners in here!

Brought to you by Neewer

It’s funny how you don’t realize you like a particular brand until you receive a box from “Amazonclaus” and every single item is from the same brand even though you purchases from different shops.

I’ve been battling creating a mobile setup that would be friendly in the great outdoors for years. After the busted strobe incident followed by the bent brolly box on a different shoot, I’ve been shooting with a hot shoe Speedlight only. Life would be simpler with an assistant but hey we make do with what we got.

So enter in Neewer. I like Neewer. The products are cheap but not cheaply made. With my current track record of equipment abuse, I need to be smart with my purchases. Trying to stay light weight and portable I picked up a couple 24″ popup boxes with Speedlight rings, sandbags and some new remotes (cheap…use for 3 years and toss). Everything is Neweer.

I guess I have a new fav brand LOL!

Looking forward to testing everything out then taking to a shoot next week.

Reconnected with friends over headshots

Nothing better than having two old friends look you up for headshots. We chatted, caught up, laughed and of course captured some amazing portraits. Traditional and a lifestyle with the faux window. Just look at these too! No wonder they made such beautiful girls! Yes a bonus! They brought their daughters and I was able to snap a quick pic. So lovely!

A beautiful day at Alpines

Easter weekend I had a wonderful time shooting an extended family session. Adorable little girls, beautiful ladies, handsome gents and a family that loved one another – PERFECTION!

We dodged harsh sunbeams and raindrops (Florida dontcha know) and I think accomplished creating some memorable images to be cherished.

Long Overdue Website Rebuild

I have been putting it off literally for years!

You know the whole adage about the cobbler and his children’s shoes? Well, that is what happens to me. Besides running this studio I also have a company called KindaWonderful where I offer branding consulting and graphic design, ie websites. So one would think my own websites would be absolutely stellar. Not so much the case. I get stuck in my own head and I cannot design for myself. The words just do not come and the design process gets rather constipated. Then with a photography site, I cannot even choose my own favorite images. I go completely mental LOL!

This time I decided to do things differently. I threw all high-brow design aside and began with a conversation. I thought about what I would like to say to you if you and I were to meet at a coffee shop. I really wanted to make a connection on a personal level. I got beyond the organizing of galleries by simply being inspired by Instagram. We all have it, we all love it, so why not just do a random gallery right there on my front page. You can see all sorts of my photography throughout the years. I think there might even be some from my first year back in 2009. Memory Lane… ahhhh! LOL!

So I hope you all like it. Its all from the heart.

Love comes in many forms!

What is “Instagramification”?

I don’t always have my professional camera with me, so I like to take shots that are of interest to me with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. These are not by any means fine art, but just me taking notice of something and sharing it. See them all here.

Sleeklens Strike A Pose Lightroom Presets

sleeklensLast month I was given the opportunity to try out and review Sleeklens’ Strike A Pose Portrait Workflow for Lightroom, presets and brushes. Since I love trying out new things, I was like ‘oh yeah!’.

I found the installation to be simple and easy to complete as it included the standard installation steps as other presets. However, I did have to familiarize myself with the brush install. I have never really used brushes in Lightroom being that I see it as more of a standard darkroom application. I will be diving more into the brushes but for now I’m sticking to the presets.

I must say there are a lot of presets in this package, I believe it is 69 in total, to play with. I was a bit overwhelmed at first but then saw they were rather broke up into groupings: All In One, Base, Exposure, Color Correct, Tone-Tint, Polish and Vignette. Overall, I felt that many of the presets were rather ‘heavy’ for my personal taste. I do use Fader though and was able to adjust opacities to get outcomes that I liked. So far my favorites are: Sunset Portrait, Glow Baby Glow and Soft Fade. The color correction and tone/tinting presets work as they should, either fixing color casts or adding them. I like the Black Dreamy vignette and think I will be adding that to my current work flow.

In conclusion, I think there might be many useful applications for the Strike a Pose Portrait Workflow it will just take time playing with recipes to find just the right fit. After finding looks that fit my own style I will probably save them under my own settings to save time in noodling around with them.

I look forward to still trying out the brushes.
